A private sanctuary that responds to the design vision and the site’s climate and views
While a stunning double site is often considered a luxury, it became a challenge for Clontarf House.
Located in Clontarf Point and nestled into a public nature reserve with water views, the home aspires to belong to the landscape.
We needed to develop a strategy that aligned with the architect’s design vision, carefully managing scale, and ensured the home would neither overwhelm nor detract from its natural surroundings.
So we turned to the clients.
Having lived on the site for decades, they shared with us their deep understanding of the climate and seasonal shifts. And we used that information to ensure the design works with prevailing sun and wind conditions and resolves the complexities of a south-facing orientation, where the most captivating views are.
As the home is visible from the water, we also helped with the design process to ensure the concept incorporated carefully considered private zones that can be screened from view when needed.
Synchronising expertise across continents, Clontarf House seeks to deliver a residence that is both internationally informed and finely attuned to its coastal context.
